FAQs

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure normally takes 20-40 minutes.

How long do the results last?

Once the mole is removed, it will not return.

Will the procedure hurt?

The procedure can be uncomfortable, so local anaesthetic is normally used in the area.

How many sessions will I need?

Only one session is required for mole removal.

When can I go back to normal day-to-day activities?

You can go back to normal activities the same day. Though we recommend you avoid excessive heat for about two weeks after (e.g. sunbathing, sunbeds, saunas). There may be some bruising in the area so you may want to consider this if you are planning trips away or special days.

Will the mole be sent for testing for cancer?

If the surgeon deems it appropriate, we will send the mole for histology (testing) following a discussion with you.

Are there any alternatives to this procedure?

No, the only way to remove a mole is by surgery.

Are your surgeons suitably qualified and registered?

All of our surgeons are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and all relevant specialist bodies. Please feel free to ask your surgeon about his experience and qualifications at your consultation; they understand and support that this is vital information to your decision making process.
