What is Liposuction?
Sometimes, no matter how much we diet and exercise, we have areas of fat that we just can’t seem to move. This can make our figure seem out of proportion and make clothing choice more difficult. One of the most effective treatments to eliminate this accumulation of fat is liposuction. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat, leaving a slimmer figure. Liposuction is ideal for larger areas of the body.
Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or weight loss. In fact, clients are asked to be a certain weight prior to surgery for safety reasons.
Surgery
Liposuction is a surgical operation, which consists of suction of accumulated fat through thin tubes, which are connected to a vacuum system. Only small incisions are necessary to introduce them, so any scarring will be virtually invisible. The surgery takes place in an operating theatre, and usually lasts 1-2 hours.
The surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic, though a small number of procedures may be suitable for local anaesthetic and a sedative.
Later Progress
Once the operation is over, a compression bandage will help the skin to become accustomed to its new body shape. This bandage will be removed after a few days. Bruising or inflammation of the treated area is common, but this will disappear over time. Results will become more visible over time as the loss of volume and skin re-modelling is continuous and gradual. A significant improvement in the figure and body shape will be achieved. Usually, the client can return to everyday activities within just a few weeks.

Depending on the areas being treated and, we recommend that people take a minimum of one to two weeks off work following the procedure (more if your job is particularly physical). Strenuous activities, heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for about 6 weeks after your surgery.

Whenever skin is cut, nerves are also cut; this may result in altered sensation to the area, particularly at the incision site. All care will be taken to maintain sensation as much as possible.
You should be at a healthy weight for your height when you have surgery as this lowers risks related to anaesthetic. For the best aesthetic results, we recommend that you are at your ideal weight at the time of surgery as further weight loss or gain can change the results of your surgery.
You should check with your surgeon regarding safe timings of air travel following your surgery. Many airlines have their own protocols and you should inform your travel insurance company if you have had recent surgery.
